In the second of an ongoing series, Jack Loo hooks up with blogger John Flood of www.formula1journal.com to discuss the technologies behind the buzzwords used in F1 circles.

The teams need IT that collect all of this data and organise it such a way that all of the business units within the team have integrated info and can share this with their many partners.

What does the future hold for technology in F1?

One area of further development of IT lies with CFD. One of the newest teams designed its car without any wind tunnel testing, just CFD. Virgin Racings Technical Director N. Wirth designed solely on CFD. His design has had some problems, but that is the wave of the future. With wind tunnel testing and actual race circuit testing are being limited due to costs. CFD and other forms of virtual design will become even more sophisticated and more effective and may replace physical testing to a great degree.
