Jurong Aromatics Corporation enhances its operations with Motorola's TETRA system

The system enabled the Singapore petrochemical company to produce aromatics and oil products safely and efficiently.

Jurong Aromatics Corporation (JAC) has been leveraging Motorola's Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) network since April 2014 to enhance the operational efficiency of its new complex on Jurong Island in Singapore.

Comprising Motorola Dimetra TETRA Radio products — such as the Mobile Switching Office (MSO), Base Stations, Mobile and Subscribers Radios — the system allows JAC to focus on starting up the complex and producing aromatics and oil products safely and efficiently.

The system also enables seamless communication with marine vessels at the jetty for the loading and unloading of products via its interface for communication with Marine Communication.

The 24/7 command-and-control operations, including monitoring of the system as well as the escalation and handling of all fault escalation and issues, are all run by Motorola Solutions. This allows JAC to have "24/7 access to best-in-class resources for fail-safe and seamless communications in and out the complex," said Lee Wei Meng, JAC's corporate IT manager.

JAC is a large integrated petrochemical plant in Singapore dealing with aromatics and oil products. With the completion of the plant on Jurong island early this year, JAC expects to process 4.5 million tones of condensate feedstock annually. This will produce 1.5 million tonnes of aromatics, comprising 800,000 tonnes per annum of paraxylene, 200,000 tonnes per annum of orthoxylene and 438,000 tonnes per annum of benzene. In addition, the complex will produce 2.5 million tonnes per annum of high value oil product.
