Subscribers can now enjoy data roaming rates similar to local data rates whenever they travel to Malaysia.

Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (SingTel) unveiled today Singapore's first "Roam Like Home" data roaming add-on service to Malaysia.

Priced at just S$10 per month, the Data Roam Saver Malaysia (Monthly) 1GB service offers customers 1GB of roaming data in Malaysia via SingTel's partner, Maxis.

Under this new service, customers can enjoy data roaming rates similar to local data rates. Excess data charges beyond the data bundle will only cost subscribers S$0.10/MB, which is apparently the lowest rate in Singapore according to the telco.

"More than 250,000 SingTel customers travel to Malaysia every month, and the new DataRoam Saver Malaysia (Monthly) 1GB Service will allow them to enjoy data usage rates similar to what they pay in Singapore," said Johan Buse, SingTel's Vice President of Consumer Marketing.

"More importantly, the service offers great convenience and value for money without our customers having to search for elusive WiFi hotspots or juggle multiple SIM cards," he added.

In addition, SingTel announced that bundled data for the existing DataRoam Saver Malaysia (Monthly) 100MB plan will also be upgraded from 100MB to 200MB per month. Despite the upgrade, the subscription fee for all new and existing customers will remain at S$5 per month.

All DataRoam Saver plans also come with SingTel's Network Lock feature. This feature protects customers from unintended pay-per-use data charges if their phone roams onto a non-preferred network, explained SingTel.

On top of that, customers will also receive SMS reminders when they have utilised 50 percent and 100 percent of their data roam plan. These unique features will eliminate bill shock, giving customers total peace of mind.

Customers can sign up for any of the DataRoam Saver Malaysia services using their My SingTel mobile app or by dialing *100# when overseas.
