Zebra Rebooted

Zafar Anjum | June 11, 2015
As we move to a smarter, more connected world, our unique set of capabilities is unmatched in driving asset visibility and meeting our customers' needs in enterprise asset intelligence, says Ryan Goh, Vice President and General Manager, Zebra Asia Pacific, in this exclusive interview

Enterprises across vertical sectors in, retail & hospitality, transport & logistics, and manufacturing, will need to deliver optimum wireless network performance in response to the increasing need for seamless connectivity in the workplace. Zebra is committed to helping these companies maximize opportunities in an IoT- and mobility-ready APAC. Our comprehensively configured WLAN solutions for exceptional network performance, with its broad portfolio of voice, data and video-enabled devices, will serve to optimize connectivity between devices and applications.

It seems that Zebra has been focused on leveraging features and technologies such as joint capabilities in real-time asset visibility, Internet of Things solutions, rugged mobility products and cloud technologies? Can you talk about these in a little more detail and what kind of market response have you seen in these areas?

Zebra's transformation as a leader in enterprise asset intelligence is driven by the company's commitment to making the IoT accessible and scalable for any size operation.  The company has historically offered the building blocks required to give a digital voice to virtually everything in the workplace through our tracking and sensing technologies -- otherwise known as the Enterprise IoT. With the new Zebra, our expanded IoT building blocks will have the end-to-end solution and will include:

  • Expansion in barcode and RFID sensing-enabled handheld and wearable devices for the mobile workforce
  • The addition of wireless LAN solutions
  • Integration with Zebra's existing Zatar IoT management cloud platform
  • Comprehensive professional services
  • Capabilities to expand the critical data stream necessary to enable actionable business analytics

With integrated visibility and connectivity solutions for the retail, healthcare, manufacturing, transportation and logistics industries, Zebra is well-positioned to benefit from important technology trends in mobility, cloud computing and the IoT. The ability to sense, analyze and act on information in real-time is enabling companies to gain deeper insights into their operations and assets with the ultimate goals of improving workflow and delivering a better customer experience.

Zebra has a tremendous opportunity to shape this future. As we move to a smarter, more connected world, our unique set of capabilities is unmatched in driving asset visibility and meeting our customers' needs in enterprise asset intelligence. As Zebra and Motorola Solutions are leaders in critical IoT technologies including RFID, wireless networking and cloud based IoT platform software, Zebra's new cross-selling proposition will propel us to become the leader in smart mobile computing and the enterprise Internet of Things.

With regard to rugged mobility products, Zebra is, by far, the leader in Android-based mobile computers and continues to expand the industry's broadest portfolio with the recent launch of our latest Enterprise-class mobile computer. As adoption of Android-enabled devices continues, we see strong product momentum, with several customers notably in postal, transportation and logistics, and retail. Field mobility factors strongly in these verticals and rugged mobility products are a priority. We are also supporting further adoption by establishing a program to help independent software vendors transition their customers to the Android platform.
