Midsize U.S. cities offer attractive alternative to offshoring IT

Stephanie Overby | June 8, 2015
A number of midsize American cities now make attractive alternatives to offshore locations in India and elsewhere for IT and business process services, according to recent research from the Hackett Group.

Risk and volatility — including political, data security, foreign exchange, fraud, and natural disaster risks — continue to rise everywhere, says O'Connor, although U.S. cities usually have a lower risk profile overall.

But while American companies are increasingly contemplating domestic sourcing options for new work or expanded scope, few are repatriating work that is already offshore, according to The Hackett Group. "Each company needs to weigh their factors according to their own business objectives," says O'Connor.
