To emphasise its new laptop's classiness in performance, mobility and entertainment, Leonovo, the world's fourth largest PC vendor, launched the ThinkPad X1 on board a luxury yacht at Marina at Keppel Bay in Singapore on Thursday (7 July).
At the launch, Lenovo's senior executive consultant, Leo Curtis, said the ultraportable ThinkPad was Lenovo's thinnest business laptop ever (17 mm). It is lightweight too-it weighs just 1.72 kg. It is designed for business leaders who demand the best in performance, mobility and entertainment, said Curtis.
The laptop has second generation Intel Core processors which allows the ThinkPad X1 laptop to double the CPU performance and quadruple the graphics performance of the ThinkPad X300, Lenovo's previous flagship 13-inch laptop.
The laptop was launched with Lenovo's "For Those Who Do" brand slogan. "We have created a Do machine that incorporates features we believe make a real difference for business users, putting it in a class of its own," said Lee Chown How, country general manager, Lenovo Singapore.
This is a no compromise laptop, said Curtis, as Lenovo's engineers have not cut any corners in developing this powerful machine.
The ThinkPad X1 laptop incorporates several features new to the ThinkPad X Series family including a 13.3-inch super bright infinity screen made of Corning Gorilla Glass, RapidCharge battery technology, a Dolby Home Theatre multimedia feature, and a backlit keyboard.
According to Curtis, the use of Corning Gorilla Glass is the first in the industry for a laptop. It is an anti-scratch, extra-durable glass.
"The ThinkPad X1's top three features include the enhanced experience, the rapid resume feature and the interior roll cage," said Curtis. The enhanced experience allows faster booting up of the machine. "For quick and easy startup and shutdown, the laptop features Lenovo Enhanced Experience 2.0 for Windows 7 - an exclusive certification for Lenovo products that allows users to start their laptop on average 20 seconds faster than a typical Windows 7 computer," he said.
The rapid or Instant Resume enables the machine to continue its wi-fi connection even during the time one moves from one place to another. "With Instant Resume, users can keep their wireless connection, whether it's wi-fi or mobile broadband, even when the laptop goes into sleep mode, up to 90 minutes," said Curtis. The interior roll-cage allows the machine to withstand drops and falls. "The machine can take a weight of 200 pounds and still work," said Curtis.
The laptop is rugged and meets military specifications and provides rock solid performance in any environment. "The hardened ThinkPad X1 passes eight military specifications so that mobile professionals can work anywhere with confidence," said Curtis.
Another innovative feature of the ThinkPad X1 laptop is Lenovo's new RapidCharge battery technology that charges a battery to 80 percent in just 30 minutes.
