"We once had strong growth in our sector, but that is no longer the case," he said.
One point of strength at NSN is LTE, where it has reference deals with 78 carriers around the world and has been ranked No. 2 in market share. The company sees particularly strong growth in the U.S., South Korea and Japan, he said. Suri said NSN's opportunity in the U.S. is on his personal priority list.
Data growth was in the spotlight when Suri spoke on the eve of last year's MWC, and that much has not changed. NSN is still betting on expectations that mobile users will consume 1GB of data per day by 2020.
In the run-up to this year's MWC, NSN had already announced a wide range of new products, including micro and pico cells and its first LTE femtocell. It's also embracing the carrier Wi-Fi trend at the show, packaging access points, planning and deployment services for carriers, and software to help make it easier for mobile subscribers to get onto Wi-Fi hotspots.
