Coming much closer to home in 2012: Distributed Denial of Service attacks

Eric Hemmendinger | April 17, 2012
Typically aimed at part of the enterprise’s public-facing infrastructure, these attacks engage the resources of that infrastructure in a way that simply consumes their capacity.

Hard Truths

But here's what does not vary: the enterprise's past good fortune in not being subjected to a DDoS attack is not a good indicator of future events. Wider availability of tools, combined with lower cost and the reduced level of expertise required to use the tools all translate into a much larger number of enterprises likely to be victimised in 2012. Pragmatic self-assessment is necessary in light of the increased risk of attacks.
