With the speed with which cyber criminals are launching malicious attacks, security specialist Symantec is offering a family of solutions that it claims is far better than the competition and performs faster.
In line with Symantec Security Day 2011 held in Singapore recently, Symantec today announced the availability of Symantec Endpoint Protection 12. The solution is one of the company's answers to the recent wave of aggressive and rapidly-developing attacks on the computer networks.
More than 286 million "distinct malicious programs" were reported to have been unleashed last year, according to Symantec's Internet Security Threat Report 2010. Such sheer volume is no match to traditional signature-based solutions, said the cyber security company.
Symantec offers the Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 and Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition to protect computers and networks from "sophisticated attacks" aimed at different types of organisations.
"Organisations of all sizes are at risk of targeted cyber attacks which continue to increase in size, scope and sophistication. In conjunction with Symantec Security Day 2011, we are unveiling our latest innovation, Symantec Endpoint Protection 12, to help businesses to address these challenges," said Tan Yuh Woei, country manager, Singapore, Symantec.
The company is positioning its Endpoint Protection Family as "superior anti-malware protection for computers and servers. The company claims the family of solutions detected "25 percent more threats than any other vendor tested, and removes more malware and scans faster than any product in its class".
It said its Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 scans 50 percent faster and protects better than competitors in virtual environment and performs as well in the physical environment. The company cited third-party benchmark tests comparing its solutions from competitors':
- Dennis Labs results show that Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 running in a virtual desktop infrastructure environment defended against more real-world threats than comparable solutions from McAfee and Trend Micro;
- The Tolly Group results show that Symantec completes an on-demand scan in "about half the time with 49 percent less disk bandwidth" compared to solutions from McAfee and Trend Micro.; Symantec Endpoint Protection also "required 20 percent less disk bandwidth" during on-access scanning compared to Trend Micro's agentless DeepSecurity solution;
- AV-Test.org tests in physical environments show that Symantec protected better than comparable solutions from Kaspersky, McAfee, Microsoft, Sophos and Trend Micro; and
- The Passmark Software Performance Benchmarks show that Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 was faster than competing solutions from Kaspersky, McAfee, Microsoft, Sophos and Trend Micro; Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition also did better compared to similar solutions from ESET, Kaspersky, McAfee and Trend Micro.
Protection vs threats
The Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 is optimised for virtual systems, automatically identifying and managing virtual machines (VMs). It uses Insight, Symantec's community and cloud-based technology, used to detect and block new threats earlier and accurately.
